VICE PRESIDENT, ENGINEERING (ROCHESTER, NY)
SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
The Vice President of Engineering will play a key role in the management and integration
of all engineering operations for the Pulsafeeder Group of business units. This position provides
comprehensive technical leadership and strategic vision to the Pulsafeeder Group President and
Business Unit engineering teams in support of IDEX initiatives and its strategy to obtain optimum sales
volume, industry position and market growth.
This key member of the leadership team will significantly influence the long-term technical
direction and technology vision of the business unit by his/her ability to effectively analyze
and redirect resources through engineering and product development that effectively meet or
exceed the requirements of both internal and external customers.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Direct and assist Business Unit engineering teams in the development and implementation
of strategic plans and supporting objectives, while proactively managing supporting events
to assure attainment of agreed upon performance.
- Manage the engineering function including new product design and development, quality
assurance, engineering support and sustaining engineering.
- Create, implement, and execute a multigenerational research and development process
that promotes first to market concepts and execution.
- Utilize a stage-gate process discipline for moving new product development projects
from idea to launch.
- Assess and improve new product development process through benchmarking internal/external
best practices. Partner with Sales and Marketing to identify and develop new product ideas
based on the company’s capabilities, customer needs and market opportunities.
- Collaborate with a wide variety of functional areas such as Engineering, Manufacturing,
Sales and Sourcing to develop cost effective design concepts with a high degree of
manufacturability.
- Recommend methods, materials, and layouts for improvement based on manufacturing needs
and capabilities.
- Create and develop the necessary organizational structure to support the Pulsafeeder Group’s
global strategic initiatives.
- Drive, support and utilize the company’s process improvement initiatives including, but not
limited to, Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, Value Streams and Global Sourcing.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & REQUIRED ABILITIES:
- An in-depth understanding of engineering principles, practices, procedures, and the ability
to exercise independent judgment within established systems and procedures.
- Excellent analytical and problem solving skills, with the ability to translate complex
situations into information that will support the profitability and growth of the business.
- Proven management/supervisory skills, including the ability to challenge employees with
multiple technical disciplines to achieve excellence by thinking differently to create
alternative design solutions.
- Customer focused and customer driven. Requires experience in mining and validating Voice of
Customer (VOC) data to identify and support the needs of external customers.
- Demonstrated organizational abilities and excellent project management leadership expertise.
Outstanding oral and written communication skills, which include active listening.
- A high energy, results-oriented manager who is not afraid to take charge and serve on
cross-functional teams.
- A strategic thinker/problem solver who can effectively interface with all levels of employees.
An ability to analyze the details, but also to be able to step back and "look at the
big picture."
- The ability to cope effectively in an environment of change. Makes good decisions in a timely
fashion, often with incomplete information and under tight deadlines.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- BS degree in Engineering, Masters Degree in Engineering or MBA preferred. A minimum of 10-15
years of demonstrated success in an engineered products manufacturing operation, including
significant management experience and excellent technology assessment capabilities.
- Experience in a process focused organization (Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, Value Streams)
and experience working with J.D. Edwards is highly desirable. Proficiency in Microsoft
Office applications.
- Must have a proven track record, demonstrated by a progressive level of growth in responsibility.
Requires expertise in working with business reorganizations and globalization initiatives,
including acquisition analysis/due diligence.

PURPOSE
The purpose of this job is to drive organic growth by working closely with sales and marketing in gathering/analyzing the Voice of the Customer (VOC) to drive product specifications and design requirements. Designs must follow Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) best practices, which enable creating robust products that meet/exceed customer expectations within project cost goals.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The principle responsibilities of the Mechanical Engineer shall include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Lead the engineering team's mechanical design and product development proces.
- Capture and organize customer specifications for existing and new product development (VOC).
- Model/design all mechanical subsystems/parts and their operation for new products. This will include re-designs/updates of existing products.
- Model/design a wide variety of successful (as supported by sales volume and quality) mechanical devices such as: electrical enclosures, valves, pump heads, pump housings, motor linkage assemblies, solenoid linkage assemblies, tanks, plumbing assemblies and panel systems.
- Design and develop products/parts which reduce costs and increase margins.
- Research quality concerns to determine failure root causes and corrective actions.
- Improve parts and product design to ease manufacturing and support value stream production.
- Analyze competitor's products to identify and exploit gaps.
- Engage in the process mindset - use an organized, methodical approach to development and problem solving, measuring progress and using measurement systems to identify quality, costs, specification alignment, timing, etc.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- MS Mechanical Engineering.
- 5+ years of experience modeling and designing systems/subsystems for project specifications which require fluid control devices such as fluid metering pumps, valves, solenoids and controllers.
- 5+ years of experience working in a lab environment; familiarity with LabView DAQ systems.
- 5+ years of professional experience in FEA; CFD experience a plus.
- Experience using solid modeling tools such as SolidWorks/Pro-E.
- Experience in the design of plastic injection-molded parts (structural and non-structural) preferred.
- Experience in DFSS and engineering project management.
- Desired Software skills: Excel, MSProject, SolidWorks, Cosmos, MatLab/Simulink, LabView, MathCad.

RIT - Cooperative Program (Rochester, NY)
Our Rochester, NY manufacturing facility has had a long standing relationship
with the Cooperative Education program sponsored by the Rochester Institute
of Technology. Assignments typically center around students majoring in
the Electrical/Electronic Engineering and Computer Sciences programs, with
occasional openings focusing on Mechanical Engineering. Past projects have
included developing computer based controls or programs for computer based
controllers, enhancing existing electronic products, designing and documenting
circuits, bread board and design evaluation and product testing. We are
