PRODUCT MANAGER(ROCHESTER, NY)

The Product Manager plans, organizes, and controls assigned product lines from conceptual stages through product life cycles for the purpose of optimization of profit while managing marketing, financial, and corporate growth objectives for all regions of the world, all applicable markets, and all sales channels.

PRIMARY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

  • Product Development: define and document customer requirements for new products as required to achieve corporate market share goals within a specific market.
  • Product Enhancements: define and document customer requirements for product changes and/or enhancements as required to maintain or grow existing market share within a specific market.
  • Communications: disseminate information on new product, changes and general product strategy to all functions within the company.

PRIMARY DUTIES

  • Participate in overall global product strategy and product development initiatives through analysis of market research coordination for new and emerging products
  • Collaborate with wide variety of functional areas such as sales, engineering, marketing, manufacturing, and operations to develop product definitions responsive to customer needs and marketing opportunities
  • Coordinate product releases and market communication program
  • Provide sales training and support as required
  • Establish tactical pricing and margin oriented strategies and lead time target strategy
  • Product configuration and market perception responsibility
  • Owner of product quality, warranty, and reliability
  • Establish and execute annual and three-year product plan
  • Establish and execute product cost targets and cost reduction plans
  • Develop product standardization and rationalization plans
  • Develop and maintain product pricebook, operations manuals, and technical documentation
  • Develop competitive analysis and strategic positioning plan
  • Establish and execute product promotion strategy
  • Solicit and analyze customer feedback as it pertains to product performance, functionality, and value within served markets

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • B.S. in Engineering – ME, ChE, or EE preferred (MBA desired)
  • 5+ years related experience related to mechanical and electrical equipment
  • Broad product and market knowledge – chemical process, water & wastewater markets
  • Technical and commercial sales experience
  • Approximately 30% travel

FIELD SERVICE ENGINEER(ROCHESTER, NY)

PRIMARY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

  • Works directly with end users and customers to provide both remote technical support (via phone/email/fax), as well as on-site field support for Pulsafeeder’s line of industrial pumps, electronic controllers, and complete chemical feed systems.
  • Responsibilities will include installation, demonstration, repair and troubleshooting related to product function. Experience with presentations and comfort teaching in front a group is required.
  • Willing to travel both domestically and internationally when required

General Qualifications:

The principle responsibilities of the Mechanical Engineer shall include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • B.S. degree in Engineering or AAS Degree in a technical field and 5-7 years experience in implementation of industrial controls is preferred.
  • Previous work experience in Pulsafeeder’s main target industries of water and wastewater, pharmaceuticals and food, or petrochemical (or similar) is a plus.
  • Previous experience with industrial pumps, valves, drives and control systems is preferred, but not required; strong aptitude for general electrical and mechanical repairs is highly preferred.
  • Requires exceptional analytical and problem solving skills. Candidate must have the ability to independently gather information, and apply knowledge of hardware and software to arrive at efficient solutions for our customers.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational and customer service skills are critical. Experience working with customers to resolve problem issues under time constraints is important.
  • General computer literacy and knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Office applications, Adobe Acrobat, and other commonly used office software is required.
  • Travel will be required, approximately 50 - 60 %, and may include some international travel. Some travel may be on short notice.

Electrical Specialty Qualifications:

  • Must be familiar with PLC based ladder logic programming and be able to troubleshoot the programming. Experience with Allen Bradley Micrologix based controllers, EXOR based touch screens, AB PanelView platform, Telemechanique, RSLogix 500 a definite plus. Knowledge of how these systems integrate into and interface with plant SCADA and control systems will be important.
  • Must be able to read ladder diagrams and general electrical schematics and understand component relationships and overall system function.
  • Strong knowledge of process control is important, for example: Open loop control, Standard PID control (digital domain); feed forward control and Fuzzy logic control methods that are suitable to non-linear systems such as pH, ORP, conductivity, dissolved O2. Ability to manually tune parameters in these systems in order to attain system performance as required is critical.
  • Requires the ability and comfort level to safely work with live 120 through 480 VAC circuits in instances that prevent a standard lock-out tag-out protocol.

PURPOSE

The purpose of this job is to drive organic growth by working closely with sales and marketing in gathering/analyzing the Voice of the Customer (VOC) to drive product specifications and design requirements. Designs must follow Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) best practices, which enable creating robust products that meet/exceed customer expectations within project cost goals.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The principle responsibilities of the Mechanical Engineer shall include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Lead the engineering team's mechanical design and product development proces.
  • Capture and organize customer specifications for existing and new product development (VOC).
  • Model/design all mechanical subsystems/parts and their operation for new products. This will include re-designs/updates of existing products.
  • Model/design a wide variety of successful (as supported by sales volume and quality) mechanical devices such as: electrical enclosures, valves, pump heads, pump housings, motor linkage assemblies, solenoid linkage assemblies, tanks, plumbing assemblies and panel systems.
  • Design and develop products/parts which reduce costs and increase margins.
  • Research quality concerns to determine failure root causes and corrective actions.
  • Improve parts and product design to ease manufacturing and support value stream production.
  • Analyze competitor's products to identify and exploit gaps.
  • Engage in the process mindset - use an organized, methodical approach to development and problem solving, measuring progress and using measurement systems to identify quality, costs, specification alignment, timing, etc.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • MS Mechanical Engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience modeling and designing systems/subsystems for project specifications which require fluid control devices such as fluid metering pumps, valves, solenoids and controllers.
  • 5+ years of experience working in a lab environment; familiarity with LabView DAQ systems.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in FEA; CFD experience a plus.
  • Experience using solid modeling tools such as SolidWorks/Pro-E.
  • Experience in the design of plastic injection-molded parts (structural and non-structural) preferred.
  • Experience in DFSS and engineering project management.
  • Desired Software skills: Excel, MSProject, SolidWorks, Cosmos, MatLab/Simulink, LabView, MathCad.

RIT - Cooperative Program (Rochester, NY)

Our Rochester, NY manufacturing facility has had a long standing relationship with the Cooperative Education program sponsored by the Rochester Institute of Technology. Assignments typically center around students majoring in the Electrical/Electronic Engineering and Computer Sciences programs, with occasional openings focusing on Mechanical Engineering. Past projects have included developing computer based controls or programs for computer based controllers, enhancing existing electronic products, designing and documenting circuits, bread board and design evaluation and product testing.
